ABU Zaria Students Experience PatternMaker Software

Digital patternmaking is a necessary skill for fashion schools. It is a skill that students, teachers, designers, and pattern makers can develop with the right software and guidance.

Through the SewAfrica CAD Grant, some faculty and students of the Department of Home Economics, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, received CAD training using PatternMaker 7.5. Four participants who completed the course project received lifetime licenses for PatternMaker 7.5 Grading Studio.

The awardees are:

 Rahma Abdulkadir Khaleel — Student

 Esther Kantiok — Faculty

 Ganiyat Idris — Student

The training was delivered online by Eunice Grace Oghinan of Ginani Fashion School over approximately eight weeks. 

The training introduced the students to CAD drawing tools and precision drafting. The aim was to give the learners enough understanding of CAD to complete patternmaking projects independently.

The Feedback

Rahma Abdulkadir Khaleel described the experience as smooth and said the training simplified every process. She also said CAD patternmaking can make work faster, easier, more time-efficient, and more sustainable.

Promise Emmanuel said PatternMaker makes drafting easier and faster, while helping with accurate measurements.

Esther Kantiok, ABU Zaria faculty member, said the software allowed her to explore pattern development and offered a simplified approach compared to other software she had used.

Ganiyat Idris said the training exposed her to many designs and motivated her to do more. She also said the software helped her understand pattern drafting in different sizes.
