Help Desk
These are some common errors using PatternMaker Programs or Pre-made pattern macros.
The pattern cannot be drawn with these measurements!
When PatternMaker gives you this error it means that with the measurements you have given in, the pattern can not be drawn by the program.Be sure that you measured at the right way. This means your elastic band should be totally horizontal from the back around your waist. It could be that this is not what you would like to have as your waistline, but the pattern is drawn this way. When for instance the band is at the front much lower as at the back your waist heigth is much too long measured and also drawn. You can always lower the waistline at the front later in the pattern by moving those points down at the screen. It can also be that you have made a type of fault, like shoulder 124 instead of 12.4 or the bust or waist height was not divided by 2.It can also have to do with your body balance, the posture difference. When you have a somewhat rounded back your back length will be longer than your front length and, in that case, Patternmaker will draw your shoulder line too steep or cannot draw it. You can check your measurements with the Posture difference manual which you can find under Help/Manuals in the folder Leena. There are 2 documents, a pdf manual Posture difference about the subject and a posture difference excel sheet. When you fill in this sheet you will get advice about the to fill in measurements.
PDF and Digitizing
To be able to save a pattern as a pdf file you need to have a pdf writer program. In W10 theprogramMicrosoft to PDF is already there or you could use Adobe Writer or eg Cute pdf (this program canbedownloaded for free atwww.cutepdf.com).Save a pattern drawing as a pdf fileDo the following:•At Print Setup select as printer the pdf writer program like Microsoft to pdf or cute pdf.
NB: When you choose a pdf printer the page preview will change. Check with the F12 keyPage grid on if thee patterns are placed well on the pages.•You are doing just like you are going to print the pattern, so select Print. When you print, it isnot going to print for real but it saves the files as a pdf file. Scroll tot the right folder and name the file.ps. The patterns in PatternMaker are saved in My Documents\PatternMaker\PersonalFiles\PatternsPrinting. The pdf file- Open the pdf file via the pdf program or via Explorer.•Before printing donot check Scale or Fitting at page. When this is checked the sizes of the drawing can change.•When your printer can print without Margins , check this. When you print with marginsprobably 0.25 cm of the drawing is not printed, which makes taping the pages difficult.(When you print the pattern via PatternMaker, you need to print with margins otherwise theprint is not good)Tip: every printer prints different, with different margins, so de sizes can differ a bit. Thereforedrawsomewhere in the corner arectangle of 10×10 cm, so the user can check whether the sizes areprinted well. Test this before you print the real pattern. Why do you want your patterns saved as a pdf and then digitize them? You have already a digital file in PatternMaker. Most of thetime you have paper patterns and want to digitize them to get them intoPatternMaker as digital files, where you can use them and edit them. With the PatternMaker Grading Studio you can also digitize your patterns but a digitizer is notincluded. You have to buy that yourself.Depending on the size of the paper patterns you have to choose the size of the digitizer. (You cannot do it with your phone.)With a A4 digitizer tablet you have to divide for instance a jacket in a couple of pages to digitizethewhole pattern. So most of the time a bigger digitizer is used like A1 size. They even have a rollup digitizer. We do not offer a workshop for that but have in the manual instructions for using it.With the digitizer comes a digitizer mouse with buttonsfor tracing over the pattern. We advise a16 buttons mouse because you need the buttons for the commands while you trace the pattern.

I’ve install PlayOnMac and the Mac versions on all 3 collections but I can’t get them to link.
If you have them installed on the same virtual machine they should automatically link together. By default they install in different virtual machines which can not talk to each other. You can verify that MacroGen is talking to PatternMaker by launching PatternMaker from within MacroGen. You can verify PatternMaker is talking to the macros by trying to run a macro with PatternMaker. If these tests do not work there are 3 things to verify have been done:
1) That the programs have been installed in the same virtual machine
2) That the playonmac version of each program has been use
3) That the correct Icon in play on mac has been used to launch the program
It is difficult to verify these after installation. The easiest work around for this is to create a new virtual machine and install everything on it.
The link for instructions on reinstallation is at https://patternmakerusa.com/macinfo/
Here are the instructions for installing on a preexisting virtual machine
- Start PlayOnMac
- Click Install a program on the left hand side
- Click Install a non-listed program near the bottom
- Click Next on a couple of dialogs
- Click Edit or update an existing application and click Next If it asks you Please type a name for you application’s virtual driveyou are creating a new virtual drive rather than updating one. Click Cancel and try again.
- Select you PatternMaker icon. It may be label PatternMaker or PatVer7_5. Click next
- Click ‘Next’
- On What kind of virtual drive do you want to create click Next. I do not know why it asks this since you are not creating a virtual drive.
- Select the installer. You should be able to handle the rest from here.
If you have trouble with these please send complete information about what you are seeing. Screen captures are great as well as error messages. Also include a description of what you expect to see, so I can check it against what you do see.

Specal build of PM and Women 1
We have discovered some people have problems installing collections, like you are. Solving it requires installing a special build of PatternMaker and the collections that play nicely with PlayOnMac. You can download the special build at https://www.patternmakerusa.com/playonmac/PatternMaker7_5_PlayOnMac_Setup.exe You can either install this into a new virtual driver, or update the current drive with this installation. I will do a quick walk through of that below. You will have to reregister PatternMaker. I am increasing the number of registrations you have because of that.
You can download Womens Volume 1 here: https://www.patternmakerusa.com/playonmac/Macros/Women1_PM75_PlayOnMac.exe It does need to be installed as an update. Here is how to install an update.
- Start PlayOnMac
- Click Install a program on the left hand side
- Click Install a non-listed program near the bottom
- Click Next on a couple of dialogs
- Click Edit or update an existing application and click Next If it asks you Please type a name for you application’s virtual drive you are creating a new virtual drive rather than updating one. Click Cancel and try again.
