Pattern Manipulation: Slash, Rotate, and Spread

Traditional patternmaking often involves scissors, tape, and retracing. Pattern manipulation techniques can be applied to patterns digitally —without the mess. The results can be saved on different layers and tested.

Digital Slash & Rotate Workflow

  1. Draw the cut line
  2. Use Cut to separate the piece
  3. Move or rotate using numeric input or visual snapping
  4. Rejoin using:
    • Join, or
    • Retracing with Poly

This is ideal for:

  • Moving darts
  • Adding pleats
  • Preserving shape integrity

The result is precise, reversible, and fast.
